A Little Information on Ray (and Melodi)...

We are a Photography and Planning team based in The Pacific NorthWest looking to document our next wedding!

About Us...

Melodi and I are brand new to the Pacific NorthWest and we are LOVING the landscape and the new weather! We have spent the past 24+ years living in locations without seasons and surrounded by deserts so moving to an area with this much greenery and nice people is truly a breath of fresh air.

Melodi (who has been my second shooter and assistant for the past 10 years) and I live in Vancouver, WA right across the river from Portland with our Border Collie mixes and a tennis-ball-obsessed Australian Shepherd. We recently opened a office space / studio in Vancouver's downtown area, right on Main Street - 916 Main St, to be exact, which is the same building where the Brickstone Ballroom lives.

Ray's Photography...

My main photography focus has been, and still is very much, on Wedding Photography as it is an art-form that I simply fell in love with over 10 years ago. I actually photographed my first wedding by mistake, and I haven't looked back since. The story of the "mistake" wedding goes like this...

Melodi and I were at a friend's wedding and we were sitting on the isle seats, waiting for the Ceremony to start. Since I had my camera with me (I always have my camera with me) I wanted to try to get a good shot of the kiss so I could give them a nice framed wedding present. We were now about 20 minutes past the start time and there were some nervous faces on family members. All of a sudden I get a tap on my shoulder and it is the Bride in the isle who looks like she is in panic mode. She said that her photographer's camera broke and didn't have a backup (really??) She asked if I could capture the day for her so they would have some kind of record of the day. Keep in mind that this was before there were hundreds of cameras, cell phones and iPads at every wedding... At the time I was shooting a lot of concerts so I was used to low light situations and I agreed on the condition that she knew I had never captured a wedding before so I was not experienced in this field. The pressure was on and I was fumbling through all the wedding scenarios but I quickly became enamored with documenting happy moments, crazy moments, important moments, once-in-a-lifetime moments, moments that needed to be remembered forever - captured forever.

I quickly realized how each moment that went by would have been lost in time if there wasn't a record of it photographically. At the end of the day, the photographs are one of the few things couples take away from their wedding day, not to mention any heirlooms they can pass on to future generations. I was hooked and had found my new photographic obsession. I still look at the images I captured that day from time to time just to remind me of that whirlwind of a day. I laugh at a few of them and cringe at others but I am certainly glad that the bride didn't hire a true professional photographer with back-up plans that day, otherwise I might not have ever found the path that I love today.

A little about Melodi...

As I stated before, Melodi has been 50% of the reason my photography has worked so well. Together we provide full-service wedding packages where we help our clients plan their day, assist with timelines and take on day-of planner duties to make the day run smoothly and on-time. When we moved to the Pacific NorthWest, we decided that I would continue on my Wedding Photography path and Melodi would start her own wedding and event planning business. She now has her Planning Certification degree from the New York Institute of Art and Design and has on office right next to mine in downtown Vancouver. We will still be working together on my weddings but she will now be able to help more people plan their events and special days. Come by our offices to say hi when you are in the area. Her company name is 1000 Stories, which is a perfect name because there are so many variations of the same story, each being unique.

Destination Events...

I have spent a large portion of my life on airplanes and I am so thankful that my craft allows me to keep memories of all the places I've been. I have photographed all over California (Palm Springs, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Pasadena and just about every place in between as well as Arizona and Las Vegas), domestically. I've also had the good fortune of lugging all my gear to places like France, Italy, Spain, Hawaii and the Caribbean. One of my favorite wedding locations was in Paris, France! I've only shot there once but I am looking to make it a destination habit. If you are looking for a Destination Photographer then let's chat. I am passport-ready and offer very extensive coverage packages to make sure your entire experience is documented.
