Who: Hanna
What: Bridal Session at a waterfall
When: June 11, 2017
Where: Wahclella Falls in Oregon
Website: Map to the Falls

This is one of my favorite waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Here are a few facts:

  • It is roughly 350 feet in height and has two drops
  • These falls get most of its water from an underground spring
  • Wahclella Falls is only the name it goes by… The official name is Tanner Creek Falls

What a great spot for a Bridal Session!

My goal on this shoot was to photograph the bride and her dress as an enhancement to the surrounding beauty

This shoot required the help of an assistant to help with the extra gear (lighting, modifiers, etc.) as well as carrying the dress up to the falls. There’s no way Hanna could have hiked all that way in her dress comfortably or kept it clean. So, we opted to carry the dress up and get Hanna into the dress once we got up there. It was still a little dark when we started the hike so by the time we got there it was daylight, but no sunlight at this point. We really wanted to beat the busses of tourists so we chose a sunrise shoot.

Other than a few landscape photographers, we pretty much had the place to ourselves once we got to the falls. I knew we had to move fast because we’d have company within the hour so scouting before this shoot really helped out. At the end of the day, we ended up with about 10 really nice shots, which was really the goal we set when we were planning this photo shoot.

Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, the trails to these falls are still closed due to the Eagle Creek Fire. I must admit that I am still in a mourning state over this fire as SO much nature beauty was destroyed by the hands of a careless teenager. Apologies for going off-topic a little but I think we can all learn something from this teen’s mistake. Read about his sentence here.

And now, the Wahclella Falls Bridal Session in photographs…
