The Velveteen Rabbit in Las Vegas is one of the coolest bars in Las Vegas. It is a step up from a hipster dive bar and features a shabby chic assortment of velvety couches and fun chairs. They definitely spent some thought and effort on their ambience and it is one of the aspects that make it such a fun and interesting place.
The drinks are a beer and craft cocktail assortment and the walls are adorned with local art and full of fun colors. This bar is not owned and operated by a large chain corporation, rather sisters who have made a very boutique bar experience in the Arts District of Las Vegas.
You will see a few images in my portfolio that were taken at the Velveteen Rabbit with a lovely wedding party from Rick and Mai DeSoto's Wedding. The couple asked permission from the bar owners if we could come in during the day, while the bar was closed, to shoot some Bridal Party photos before the Ceremony. By the time we arrived we had approximately 45 minutes, which gave us enough time to get a few individual as well as some group shots.
Not knowing what to expect, we brought along a Profoto B2 light with a OCF Octa modifier to give us the light we needed to illuminate our subjects. If we would have had more time we would have used a two light setup but we were shooting and moving on to the next shot so quickly that it would have slowed us down. As it was, I would have liked to have had a couple of hours in the bar but I am very grateful for the time we had. The way we shot gave us a very contrasty and moody look, which I like. Technically there are a few shadows I would have liked to get rid of but overall I love these shots.
